How to Stop Worrying

Dealing with Rejection

Top Networking Tips for Shy People.

1.  Look for anyone who is standing alone and be the one to approach them.  There is a good chance that they are feeling just as uncomfortable as you.   They are likely to welcome the company, so approaching them won’t be too daunting.   And it gives you the support of having a ‘team’ behind you.

2.  If you have a friend who is outgoing, get them to introduce you to others.    This can be especially helpful in new situations. Let them do the introductions and then initiate the conversation.

3.  Know what you are going to say about yourself, your product or service and its benefits.    Practice what you are going to say, think of a few possible question people might ask and prepare an answer.    By being prepared you can feel more relax and comfortable.

4.  Use your natural listening skills to your advantage.  In a room of talkative people, a person who listens and absorbs the information can be a breath of fresh air.    The quite nature of a shy person or introvert comes across as non-threatening can be an advantage when a client is looking for help or advice.

5. Research the event.  Know what is happening when and where.  If possible try and arrive early.  Approaching people one-on-one as they arrive is a lot less daunting than approaching a group of people later in the evening.
